Vishwanath Kootala Mohan
Vishwanath (“Vish”) Kootala Mohan is an intellectual property associate with a Mechanical Engineering background. His practice focuses on intellectual property law, and more specifically on patent and trademark prosecution and intellectual property litigation involving patent, trademark, and copyright issues.
Professional Experience
Vish is a graduate of University of California, Irvine School of Law (“UCI Law”). While at UCI Law, Vish externed for the Hon. Judge Dolly Gee at the United States District Court for the Central District of California. As an extern, Vish performed extensive legal research and drafted complete orders on various motions such as motions to dismiss and motions to strike. Vish was a summer associate at Christie Parker and Hale (“now Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie”)-an intellectual property law firm and also in-house at a Cleveland Golf. As a summer associate, he prosecuted patents related to computer science, electrical, mechanical, and biomedical devices and technologies; litigated intellectual property law disputes for clients that comprised of both Fortune-500 companies and startups; worked on cyber security issues; and developed virtual marking programs for companies to monetize their intellectual property. Vish was a certified law student in the Intellectual Property, Arts, and Technology Clinic at UCI Law, where he assisted and advised the governments of developing countries with forming their intellectual property laws while ensuring compliance with national and international laws. He also assisted and advised filmmakers and artists with intellectual property issues in their films, books, and pictures.
While at UCI Law, Vish was the President of the Intellectual Property and Cyberlaw Society and the South Asian Law Students Association at UCI Law. He was also the Western States Regional Delegate of the North American South Asian Law Students Association. He was also the Newsletter Chair for the Orange County Intellectual Property Law Association. He was also the captain of the UCI Law soccer team.
Prior to law school, Vish was a legal secretary for a law firm in India and primarily assisted the Managing Partner in his matters before the Supreme Court of India. Vish has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Uttar Pradesh Technical University in India. While in engineering school, he invented and designed new technology and worked at some of the biggest automobile, semiconductor, and power generation companies in the world.
Public Interest and Pro Bono Work
Vish is actively involved with various NGOs around the world in fighting against social evils such as rape, domestic violence, honor killing, and illiteracy.
Interests
Vish is fluent in six languages including Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Punjabi, and French. He also practices MMA, plays soccer, and plays the mandolin.
